05 July 2004 – Katopé invests R500 000 in Sage ERP Accpac software upgrade

[Johannesburg, 5 July 2004] – Sage ERP Accpac business partner, AccTech Systems (ATS), has assisted in a major upgrade of exporter and farm produce manufacturer, Katopé’s accounting system.

Keith Fenner, manager: solutions and business development at AccTech Systems, confirms Katopé upgraded from its DOS version of Sage ERP Accpac to Sage ERP Accpac Advantage Series 5.2. “The company opted for the Advantage Series Enterprise Edition (EE), at both its head office in Tzaneen and at a branch in Cape Town, and for Advantage Series Small Business Edition (SBE) at three remote locations,” he says.

“The General Ledger Consolidations module was implemented to gather information from the remote locations to facilitate consolidated reporting and detailed branch analysis.”

According to Fenner, Sage ERP Accpac’s scalability was key for Katopé. “The product offered the opportunity to roll out the SBE at remote offices while running EE at the head office. This offered seamless integration and interaction between the different branches, greatly improving the financial reporting. Furthermore, deploying SBE at remote offices provided a huge cost saving for the company.”

Katopé’s group financial director, Clive Garrett, agrees, adding that before the upgrade, many of the branches were running different accounting packages and implementing the right accounting package offered a level of uniformity at this level.

“In addition, using the conformity Sage ERP Accpac provides, we now see a single chart of accounts instead of many,” says Garrett. “Our financial reporting is vastly improved as are the monthly consolidations.”

One of the more obvious reasons for the upgrade, says Garrett, was that working with DOS was becoming inconvenient due to limited support options. “We were also experiencing low productivity levels because we could not integrate our general ledger with other Windows-based software,” says Garrett.

“The Windows-based Sage ERP Accpac software has addressed all of these issues comprehensively,” he adds. “Now, the day-to-day accounting procedures run smoothly, staff productivity has increased and nothing falls through the cracks.”
